In the Loupe: Why a ‘Blog’?

loupe.jpgBig changes are afoot for the ‘In The Loupe’ newsletter! The biggest and most obvious one is the move to a digital publishing format. It is our hope that this new format will allow us to create new and dynamic content for our membership. In addition, many members of the GFAF were aware of the cost of printing, both monetary and environmentally, and this medium was a simple and effective departure from those concerns and opened a wide array of new possibilities for this publication.

That being said, in the coming year we hope to take advantage of this medium in new ways. First, we are hoping to involve the membership in the editorial process, by writing pieces that are concurrent with what is happening in our daily practice as designers, advertisers, and businessmen and women. Topics such as client relations, best practices, office dynamics, and industry trends will be a welcome addition to the current article line up. This idea came out of the simple fact that the strength of our club is in our membership. Our membership contains some of the best talent in the area, which is a wonderful resource we all can draw from.

Second, the addition of digital dynamic content such as video and audio to our articles will now be possible. (Check back after the ADDYs for all the judges’ awards, and best of show videos!). Exploring sound and video will be a great extension to the written word, and hopefully bring a better experience to all our members. And lastly, to make all of these ideas a reality we need one thing from you, involvement. Through joining this site and simply giving your comments on articles, or going to the next level and volunteering in the GFAF events and committees, we can strengthen our club and the content of this site to be a valuable and enriching part of membership in the GFAF. Simply click on “register” in the middle column below the navigation, and you will be on your way to improving our newsletter and our club.

Thanks,
Tobin Lehman

  1. I love this format for the GFAF newsletter. It makes sense for the club from both an SEO and a cost standpoint. Nicely done.
