Hot. Fresh. And we’re not talking baked goods.

Louanne WelglossFeeling the heat of summer? I can assure you that you won’t find relief at the GFAF  - our new line-up of events is the hottest thing going on this Fall! We’re riding the wave of change (to quote a politician or two) and are taking a fresh look at our events, our public service, our website, our structure and the value we can bring to our members.

Right now you’re thinking, “Wow, she needs to chill out.”  I should tell you that it took me a little while to feel this way. Before I traveled to Atlanta for the AAF National Conference with vice president, Cheri Baker, I wondered what I was getting myself into and how I was going to juggle my new GFAF role (read “chore”) with my other responsibilities: business owner, mom, housekeeper, cook, taxi driver, etc. Sound familiar? My mentality has quickly changed and I hope yours will as well.

Cheri and I were greeted with open arms in Atlanta (thanks to Lisa and Sandy, who paved the way last year). We met numerous leaders of clubs in our AAF district, including those from Washington, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Buffalo and Erie.  Many of these clubs face the same challenges we do, but working together, we caught a wave of enthusiasm that we’re sure will be contagious. Our goal for this year is threefold: to have fun; to learn together; and to serve our community as a united group of professionals.

Continuing with the baked good theme, here’s a “taste” of what’s coming:

  • Exciting programs designed with all members in mind
  • At least one all-new social event (hint: start working on your bicep curls)
  • Monthly e-letters designed for easy reading and to keep you “in the loupe” more effectively
  • Increased member leadership (yes, we will be calling on your talents)
  • A new and easier method of communication and event notification
  • More take-home value than any other year

And so much more…

We are so fortunate to have a committed and enthusiastic board working hard on many facets of our activities. When you pass them on the street, please say “thanks” and ask how you can help to make this year hotter and fresher than ever before.

Make this the year that you – and your employees – jump in and take advantage of all that GFAF has to offer. Like anything else, we can only be as good as those who participate. Enjoy your summer and be prepared to join us in September for a great kick-off event. See you there!
