Interview with Rich Daughtridge, Co-Founder

What is High Rock Studios?
An integrated marketing and design firm with offices in Columbia, Frederick and Hagerstown, specializing in web development, graphic design and video production.

Who makes up your team?
We have a team of 12, including designers, web developers, video production personnel, project manager, business development and administrative staff. The design team is led by our Co-Founder and Creative Director, Dave Schleigh. The web team is led by Senior Programmer, Debbie Koser, and the video team is led by Salyer McLaughlin.

How did High Rock start?
High Rock began operations in March of 2005 when Dave and I merged our businesses. I was managing a small web development firm, while Dave was designing for both web and print.

Who are your clients?
We have a range of clients and tend not to specialize in a specific market or industry. If we had one area that has become a niche, it would be Economic Development Organizations and Real Estate Developers. Some of our clients include Howard County Economic Development, Hendershot’s Sporting Goods, Secure Vault Payments, Krumpes Donuts, Metropolitan Choppers, Bowers Insurance, Duffy’s on Potomac, General Growth Properties, Manekin, Susquehanna Bank, University of Maryland BioPark, Colonial Jewelers, TriState Health Partners, Callas Contractors, Hagerstown Magazine, and Smart Company Magazine.

How do you come up with ideas?
We go through a process of strategic marketing and consulting with our clients to understand their business and market. With that information, we discuss unique concepts for design and technology that would match the marketing goals set forth. At the end of the day, our goal is to make our clients more successful in the area of marketing.

What is your ideal project?
We have embraced the concept to offer an integrated marketing solution for web, print and video. I would say our ideal project would include all three of these core services to deliver a consistent look and feel for the client.

What software do you use?
The full Adobe suite as well as specialized software for video and animation projects. We utilized both Mac and PC.

Where would you like to be in five years?
I would like to see High Rock become… bigger, faster, stronger.

Extracurricular activities?
Mostly spending time with my wife and kids, but also church functions, fitness/sports and going out to eat.

Other organizations?
Currently, I co-lead a Christian leadership group called Iron Heart.

Little known facts?
Married high school sweetheart, father of three, have written two books, played professional soccer, studied in Europe, attended a military college (VMI) and own our office buildings in Hagerstown and Columbia.

Does High Rock offer internship opportunities?
We do occasionally have internship opportunities, but don’t actively recruit. We basically welcome resumes and will interview anyone who is interested.
