Interview with Joann Lee, Publications Manager and Art Director
What is your job title and responsibilities?

The marketing and communications team is Dave Diehl, Executive Director; Ilene Liska, Associate Director; Adam Leviton, Senior Designer; Adrienne Gonzales, Sports Information Director and Natalie Wieland, Administrative Assistant
What is your process when you create a new campaign or project?
We typically meet with our on campus clients from various departments (Admissions, Instsitutional Advancement, Faculty, etc.) to discuss the project. We continue from there with research or jump right into design and creation focusing on consistency of message. Our audience for any given project can vary from being very targeted and specific such as a high school junior or consist of a combination of: prospective students, parents and alumni, so there is always much to consider when developing an idea. Sampling of projects include the College magazine, viewbooks and other recruitment materials for graduate and undergraduate, fundraising materials and promotional materials for campus events. Web-based communications are part of most projects, combining print and web.
How do you come up with ideas?
We are always looking at trends, keeping our eye on what’s going on around us, our students give us inspiration. I find ideas everywhere I look at any time.
What is your ideal project?
Anything that challenges me and it’s great to see results and to feel like I have made an impact.
What software do you use?
Standard graphics software, Adobe Creative Suite.
Where would you like to be in five years?
Doing good things, making a difference.
