Ad Fed members are known for their creativity. Here is a unique community activity where you can put your creative energy to help foster in the holidays. The Frederick Arts Council has announced that the Frederick Festival of Greens will take place November 21-29. This inaugural event provides an opportunity for artists, businesses, school groups, nonprofit organizations, and all local residents a chance to participate by decorating a holiday wreath or tree that will become part of a public display during the Festival. At the conclusion of the Festival, all the decorated pieces will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the arts in Frederick County. During the eight-day public display period, your wreath or tree will be seen by hundreds of people providing great exposure for you or your business. There is no fee to participate, however participants must provide their own supplies and materials. Wreaths or trees must be dropped off by November 14th. For additional information, contact Executive Director Shuan Butcher at 301-662-4190 or visit www.frederickartscouncil.org.

Thursday, Sept. 18 – The GFAF season got off to a rousing start when an enthusiastic mix of 40 neophyte and veteran members gathered at the Flying Dog Brewing Company. The group was treated to an early beer tasting and light meal (donated by High Point Catering), followed by speaker Chris Rippe, another beer tasting, a tour of the brewery, another beer tasting…and well, you get the picture. In between the Tire Bite and Old Scratch (two of the microbrews), Rippe talked about Flying Dog’s Gonzo art theme and unique approach to marketing which, boiled down significantly,
is to “win the world over one beer at a time.” He certainly won us over!
Lest one think that it was simply an evening of liberal libation, it should be noted that the year’s calendar was unveiled (see dates on right) and 42 pairs of gently-used shoes were collected for donation. Congratulations to Cheryl Brown of Senoda, who won a pair of Crocs donated by The Trail House.

As an artist, writer or manager in today’s electronic world, it’s hard to know what’s considered public domain, what’s not, and what rights you have (or haven’t) actually purchased from a stock company. Baltimore attorney Michael S. Yang, a former graphic designer, now specializes in intellectual property law (including copyright and the arts) and internet and technology law. He’ll present this need-to-know information in layman terms and answer your burning questions! Please submit any questions you have to Louanne Welgoss at louanne@ltdcreative.com and Michael will answer them at our meeting!

Go ahead…be a piggy! Paint one, paint two, paint large, paint small. Just paint! Join GFAF members as we turn ceramic sow’s ears into silk purses and add some “beans” to our GFAF scholarship fund. Auctioned off at the GFAF Holiday Social, the proceeds will help one lucky college student each year move forward on their creative career path.
Free to all members, this is a chance to have fun with your talent (or in some cases, discover it!), while at the same time enjoying the camaraderie and (dare we say) competition of your GFAF peers. All talent levels invited; the more, the merrier!
Thank you to our event sponsors:

I grew up in the rural “village” of Palm, Pennsylvania where I attended Upper Perkiomen High School from which I graduated as salutatorian in 2005. At Susquehanna University of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania I spent much of my freshman and sophomore years exploring graphic design and, arguably contradictorily, mathematics as areas of interest (the latter not without much harassment from my design peers).

Oh You’ve been to the ADDYs, but have you met Addy? Yes, Virginia, there is an Addy! She’s sophisticated, she’s sassy, she’s just a little bit naughty, and you can meet her in the flesh at the 2009 ADDY Awards ceremony – Saturday, March 7, 2009. (Sounds like she’ll fit right in, doesn’t it?) But a little exposure is good for business, too, so why not consider becoming an ADDY sponsor and giving your organization exposure to a choice group of marketing and advertising professionals? It’s a great way to get you name in front of peers, potential clients, and even the competition. Plus, this bash is going to be a gas, in a classic Rat Pack sort of way.
But you need to act now. Planning is in full swing and the deadline for full-inclusion sponsorship is right around the corner – Monday, November 3rd to be exact. There are several sponsorship levels and each one comes with some valuable perks, so don’t miss the opportunity to grab your share of the spotlight at this year’s awards ceremony.
Click here to download detailed sponsorship information. If you have any questions or need additional information, contact one of the ADDY co-chairs, Lisa Gorham ( lisa@jeanpetersondesign.com )or Stacey Collins ( stacey.collins@pnc.com).
And what does Addy say about meeting her fans in person? “Oooh, patience is a virtue, my dears. That time will come.”
